Executive Director of Mount Carmel Rugby:
Mount Carmel Rugby competes in the highest tier of high school rugby in Illinois. The team fields both a Varsity and Junior-Varisty side, as well as a Freshman/Sophomore team. All three teams compete for a state championship. The Varsity side competes in the Chicago Catholic Rugby Conference, one of the first prep rugby conferences in the nation.
Fielding a competitive team to make a run at Catholic Conference and State Championships is only part of the equation. Introducing a game that the players can fall in love with, as a sport they can continue to play for years down the road, is first and foremost. Rugby can open a lot of doors in college and beyond. We work hard, play hard, and build a brotherhood everyday.
As a former player on Mount Carmel’s first rugby team, I know the opportunities that can come about. Upon arriving at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, I joined the rugby club and immediately had 40 friends on campus. It made the transition so much easier. I still keep in contact with many teammates,
and have formed business relationships with them as well. Upon returning to Chicago, I started coaching at Mount Carmel. After a number of years, my close connection with the school opened the door to working in the Advancement Office at the school. I have now been head coach for 5 seasons, and look forward to many more.
Teaching the game the right way and carrying ourselves as Men of Carmel is the priority for our club.
Learning the traditions of the sport and having fun while training hard is our strategy.
